SIR
- The Intranet Re-documentation Server
SIR
is NGSET´s software package, which automates re-documentation
of applications.

Dictionary | Quality monitoring
Software
Documentation
Automatically
Generated
The
source code components are automatically extracted from the mainframe
repository and automatically processed by batch jobs. No human intervention
is required.
Components
include programs, transactions, copybooks, JCL, OPC, databases, screen
maps, etc.
Up-to-date
Customers
choose the rhythm at which the documentation is updated. Since only
changed components are processed, the rhythm can be as frequent as daily.
Exhaustive

SIR
is not restricted to programs. It redocuments all components used within
an application system, such as: Source code, JCL, Screen Maps, Transactions,
OPC, Databases. Missing components are identified.
Granular

SIR
provides documentation at multiple granularity levels: Enterprise Wide,
system, sub-system, program, data element, line of code.
Centralized
Documentation
All
professionals and managers share a single source and the same level
of documentation. Furthermore, having a central documentation repository
keeps operations and monitoring easy and in control.
Ubiquitous
Access
SIR
makes the documentation available through the Internet or the Intranet.
Any workstation with a browser can access the SIR Server. The number
of users is not restricted.
Even
the administrator management tool is provided as Java applets, making
administration available from any local or remote location.
Impact Analysis
Data
Flow
SIR
provides a data flow analysis. For each data element in a program, SIR
displays all other data elements that are directly or indirectly related
to it. Data flow propagation to other components is also provided.
Control
Flow
SIR
provides inter-component control flows. For instance:
- Transactions,
JCL, or programs calling a given program
- Programs
using a given file
Data Dictionary Support
When
Data Dictionary information is available, SIR makes it acccessible to
users in two ways:
- For
all variables in a program, users may display their logical data type
(e.g. currency, account number, quantity, date), and all instructions
which manipulate these variables
- For
a given data type, SIR tells all components where this data type is
used
Generating
the logical Data Dictionary is proposed as a complementary NGSET service.
Quality Monitoring
Detailed
Quality Metrics
For
each program or copybook, developers visualize all individual quality
defects. Defects are grouped according to exposure types: Portability,
Maintainability, Anomalies, and Reliability
As
individual quality defects are shown, programmers can measure code quality
and take appropriate action where required.
Metrics
also include inventory data: Number of components, number of lines of
code

Consolidated
Quality Scores
Managers
can visualize consolidated quality scores concerning any application
systems or sub-systems. Furthermore, SIR provides graphic tracking of
quality on a periodic basis, so managers can monitor the quality evolution
over time and take appropriate action if necessary.
